Wow! What a busy weekend it was for Yours Truly!!! How about for you?! I hope it was a good weekend.

Nevertheless, Monday is here! and that means it is officially “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”)! Thanks for stopping by!

What is ‘MNM’ all about?

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.” Is it true?? Is The Help‘s reign as #1 in the box office arena over? Well, yes, it is. After an opening weekend at #2, followed by 3 consecutive #1 weekends, The Help returns to the #2 spot, bowing down to the new thriller release Contagion (3,222 theaters). Launching in only 1,869 theaters, Warrior came in at #3.

Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, Sept 9-Sun, Sept 11 (as per Box Office Mojo):

  1. Contagion ~23.1 million (NEW RELEASE)
  2. The Help ~$8.7 million
  3. Warrior ~$5.6 million (NEW RELEASE)
  4. The Debt ~$4.9 million
  5. Colombiana ~$4 million
  6. Rise of the Planet of the Apes ~$3.88 million
  7. Shark Night 3D ~$3.5 million
  8. Apollo 18 ~$2.9 million
  9. Our Idiot Brother ~$2.76 million
  10. Spy Kids: All the Time in the World ~$2.5 million

Side note: This is the FIRST weekend since July 29, 2011 that The Smurfs did not make it to the Box Office Top Ten! 7 weeks! Wow!

Congratulations to Contagion!

#2- “Behind the Scenes with The Musketeers. The Three Musketeers in 3D is set to release this upcoming October! This is one of my favorite classic tales. Paul W. S. Anderson (Event Horizon, Resident Evil, Aliens vs. Predator) directs the likes of Orlando Bloom, Ray Stevenson, Milla Jovavich, Matthew Macfayden, and more, in this high flying, sword fighting, modernized rendition of this fantastic tale.

Check out this quick behind the scenes featurette that just launched a few days ago. See more about the upcoming film. It looks really good and introduces several new aspects that have not been included in the cinematic versions before, such as a female fighter with some good moves…and some good looks!

The Three Musketeers in 3D comes out on October 21, 2011.

#3- The Three Stooges to hit the Stage” The Three Stooges film finally has a release date! Wait, you say you didn’t even know it was actually being made? Well, then SURPRISE! :) The slapstick trio will be re-imaged and in theaters on April 4, 2012 (appropriately on April Fool’s Weekend). 20th Century Fox has announced the release date and it coincides with the release of another comedy, American Reunion.

Moe, Larry, and Curly’s adventure, directed by The Farrelly Brothers (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Shallow Hal) will star Chris Diamantopoulos (Moe), Will & Grace’s Sean Hayes (Larry), and MadTV’s Will Sasso (Curly), and co-stars Sofia Vergara (Modern Family), Jane Lynch (Glee), and Jennifer Hudson. I honestly had no idea the cast consisted of these stars.

Well, what are your thoughts? Interested? Would you have preferred to see Jim Carrey in it (as he was rumored at the beginning)? or are you glad he is not? Do you care? Look for The Three Stooges this upcoming April.

#4- “The Danger Zone in 3D!” Literally JUST IN! Top Gun is being remastered and converted to 3D for theatrical release! Apparently, earlier today at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam a 4-minute sequence (including the “Danger Zone” aerial scene) of the film premiered. Legend 3D is currently doing the conversion. The company also did the 3D work for films such as: Transformers Dark of the Moon, The Smurfs, Alice in Wonderland, and the first 3 Shrek films on 3D Blu-ray.

Word is that they are still seeking director Tony Scott’s approval for the re-release of the converted version of the 1986 classic. But I can only imagine he’d be up for getting more $ in his pocket! I, for one, would LOVE to see the flight sequence in 3D! What are your thoughts?

Not certain what this means for the expected Top Gun sequel that Tony Scott reportedly has proposed with Tom Cruise reprising his role as an older Maverick (flight instructor).

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” This week, look for the following films on Blu-ray to possibly add to your collection:

Thor– Every Marvel fan better be picking this one up! (along with last week’s BD release) This is another absolute “must own” starring Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, Stellan Skarsgård, and Clark Gregg. There are also tons of extra features to enjoy that help set the stage for The Avengers. Such as this (teaser clip of short film, Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant). Pick this one up this week.

also releasing:

Star Wars: The Complete SagaYou know I HAD to mention this one. Yes, George Lucas changed a few things in his movies, but this is the first time EVER to be able to enjoy one of the greatest film sagas of all time on Blu ray with hours upon hours of extra features! It releases on Friday the 16th!

I love this trailer for it and just HAD to post it! enjoy:

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!
